The judicial police are seized, the day after a fire which struck a place of Muslim worship, in the Maurepas district, in Rennes this Sunday evening. Around 8 p.m., the fire broke out in a garden shed about ten minutes after the Imam left. The evening prayer had just ended. The building, a hundred square meters, was totally ablaze when help arrived. The disaster did not cause any casualties, but around fifteen firefighters from the Saint-Georges barracks were mobilized, with three trucks and water lances.
“The causes of the fire have not yet been determined, analyzes and expertise will be carried out.”, indicates the public prosecutor of Rennes, Philippe Astruc, contacted by France Bleu Armorique. “In view of the sensitivity of the place concerned, the investigation was entrusted by the prosecution to the Territorial Directorate of the Judicial Police of Rennes.”
The mayor of Rennes, Nathalie Appéré, in a message posted on Twitter, evokes her “Sadness at the damage caused by the fire which broke out last night at the Espoir Amal center in Maurepas. Thank you to the firefighters who intervened quickly to put an end to this disaster. An investigation has been opened to establish the exact circumstances of this fire.”
“I don’t know if it’s accidental or criminal, I’m waiting for the first elements of the investigation to decide”, reacted for his part on Sunday evening the president of the Espoir Amal cultural center, Talibi Bouazza.
