“The joy of thinking”, Jérémie McEwen

From 2017 to 2021, essayist Jérémie McEwen wrote a column on the show It’s crazy…, on Radio-Canada, hosted by Serge Bouchard and Jean-Philippe Pleau. In the wake of the death of the “wooly mammoth”, in 2021, the philosophy professor revisits around forty texts spoken at this microphone and measures them against the perspective and legacy of Serge Bouchard, who here acts as a silent interlocutor , but which offers space for doubt and contradictions necessary for the evolution and consolidation of thought and identity. Using the history of philosophy and key works of contemporary culture, Jérémie McEwen dissects multiple and heterogeneous subjects – loneliness, anger, shame, motherhood, slowness and even absence. Although it is difficult, at first glance, to grasp the coherence between the short essays, what emerges is a vibrant plea – which should go without saying – for the right to make mistakes and to reflect. The ghostly presence of Serge Bouchard reinforces the idea that the inner dialogue, to take root, must above all be able to be expressed.
