The duo Black land, (the name of the Saint-Étienne district in which the Herrerias brothers grew up) is one of the new sensations on the French scene. Their first album, Opposing forces, was released in the summer of 2020. Since then, the group has been performing concerts and invitations on television sets. A year that begins with fanfare with this nomination for the Victoires de la Musique in the male revelations category, alongside Black Dog and Myd.
“We feel really very happy, very lucky for what is happening to us. We have a lot of gratitude for all those who voted for us and for the public who have kept us going since the release of the album” explains Raphaël Herrerias.
Recognition of the musical community and the public. Newfoundland was formed in 2017 and stood out the following year with his first EP The night of the parachutes. A success that is confirmed in 2020 with the release of their first album, which last year earned them a pre-selection for the Victoires de la Musique, without reaching the final square. It is now done. “We have the pressure of a live on February 11, in prime time on France 2. We will have to live up to the event!” Raphaël testifies. And his brother Theo to add “It’s an event that can change things for a career, at least over a year, for a tour.”
Whatever the outcome of the Victory Night, Black land already has great plans for the year, starting with the release of a second album Death and light, next February 4th. Album which notably contains a duet with Bernard Lavilliers, also from Saint-Eyours. I got from her is a love song to their hometown and its working-class past.
