Israeli forces are carrying out a “offensive action” in southern Lebanon, announced Yoav Gallant, Israeli Defense Minister, Wednesday April 24. “Recently, Israeli army warplanes and artillery struck around 40 Hezbollah terrorist targets” around Aita el-Shaab, including weapons storage sites, the army said in a statement. PAt this time, it is not clear whether or not Israeli forces have entered Lebanese territory. The Lebanese pro-Iranian movement did not immediately react to the Israeli statements. New strikes in Gaza. The Israeli army carried out new bombings on Wednesday in the Gaza Strip. An AFP correspondent notably reported intense airstrikes and artillery fire in Gaza City and in the north of the Palestinian enclave.
The EU calls for an investigation into the discovery of mass graves. The civil defense of the Gaza Strip claimed on Wednesday to have exhumed around 340 bodies in mass graves on the grounds of the Nasser hospital in Khan Younes. These discoveries give “the impression that there could be human rights violations”, declared Peter Stano, a spokesperson for European diplomacy. Jake Sullivan, President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, also demanded “some answers”.
“Dozens of rockets” on northern Israel. The pro-Iranian Hezbollah announced Wednesday morning that it had launched “dozens of Katyusha rockets” in an Israeli town close to the border, “in response to the attacks of the Israeli enemy (…) and particularly the massacre of Hanine”. This operation comes the day after violent exchanges of fire in which two Lebanese civilians were killed.
