The Jets lead 3-2 against the Canadian after 40 minutes of play

(Montreal) Adam Lowry and Nino Niederreiter scored within an 18-second interval early in the second period and the Winnipeg Jets led 3-2 against the Montreal Canadiens after 40 minutes of play, Saturday night at the Bell Centre.




Lowry first scored his second goal of the game 15 seconds into the second period, breaking a 1-1 tie. He wrong-footed goalie Jake Allen after a pass from Niederreiter behind the net.

Niederreiter then beat Allen with a backhand following a pass from Mason Appleton from behind the net.

Sean Monahan reduced the gap to 3-2 8:23 into the second period, during a power play. He accepted a pass from Nick Suzuki in front of the net, then returned to his right to beat goaltender Laurent Brossoit with a backhand.

Lowry opened the scoring at 4:28 of the first period, on a penalty shot. The Jets captain caught Allen between the pads.

Justin Barron tied the game 37 seconds later. He received a pass from Rafaël Harvey-Pinard in the slot before beating Brossoit under the right arm.

The Jets had a 30-17 advantage in shots on goal after two periods of play.

Defenseman Kaiden Guhle was back in the Canadiens lineup after missing four games with an upper-body injury. Forward Joel Armia played his first match with the Habs this season.

Gustav Lindström and Jesse Ylönen were left out by coach Martin St-Louis.

The Canadian will play his next game on Monday, when he visits the Vegas Golden Knights.
