the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini wins the second women’s edition

Italian Elisa Longo Borghini won the second women’s edition of Paris-Roubaix on Saturday after 124 kilometers of racing. The Italian champion led a solo raid of about thirty kilometers. She managed to maintain up to thirty seconds ahead of her rivals.

Twice bronze medalist at the Olympic Games, Elisa Longo Borghini succeeds Briton Lizzie Deignan, winner of the first edition of Paris-Roubaix women last October and who is taking a maternity break this year.

The world champion, the Italian Elisa Balsamo (Trek), was disqualified by the jury of commissioners about forty kilometers from the finish for irregular return to the peloton: “glued can” and prolonged shelter behind a car.

It should be noted that the Dutch Marianne Vos, who tested positive for covid-19, did not start the race. She withdrew for the second edition of Paris-Roubaix Women. A three-time world champion, Vos finished second in the first edition of the race last October.

This time, the runners covered the 124 kilometers and the 17 cobbled sections under the spring sun. Last October, they encountered rain and mud during the first edition.
