Martinique experienced another turbulent night on Thursday, November 25, with further violence and break-ins against shops.
In Fort-de-France, residents experienced a night marked by detonations and wild fires, while some roadblock holders exchange firearms with the police. An atmosphere that terrifies the inhabitants, as they observe the face to face between young people and the police. Nearly six police officers were injured on the spot, while journalists were also attacked.
Conditions have become complex for firefighters, forced to intervene permanently on increasingly dangerous terrain, and caught in the flames of wild fires. “If there is a risk of spread, we turn off. If honestly there is no risk of spread, we are not extinguishing and we are not going to endanger the agents”, says firefighter Mickaël Roy. Scenes of looting and burning are increasing across the island, including in medical facilities.
