Apple will buy the first commercial production of aluminum produced without greenhouse gas emissions to use in the manufacture of its new device. “Today’s announcement proves that ELYSIS, a joint venture between Alcoa and Rio Tinto, has been able to turn an idea into reality,” said Vincent Christ, CEO of ELYSIS.

Apple has been participating financially in the development of the new aluminum manufacturing technology since the start of work in 2018. The first ingots produced by ELYSIS have already been used in part in the manufacture of the MacBook Pro.

The aluminum produced during the research and development phase was also used by AB Inbev for the Michelob Ultra beer cans and by Audi for the wheels of the eTron GT.
