The International Olympic Committee (IOC), founded on 23 June 1894, supports all stakeholders of the Olympic Movement while promoting Olympism throughout the world. This organisation declares itself as non-profit.
Let’s recall that the IOC reported revenues of $6 billion in 2021, the advertising agency Essence Global in London pocketed $40 million and the law firm Bird LLP settled for $22 million. That’s not all, the compensation of the general director of the Olympic Games, Christophe Dubi, is estimated at $975,350.46 and that of the sports director Kit McConnell, at $965,474.78. Between you and me, it’s lucky that the IOC is only non-profit. It’s up to you to take a critical look now.
Meanwhile, the IOC is being bold in wanting to give Olympic medals that contain relics of the Eiffel Tower, the work of engineer Gustave Eiffel inaugurated on March 31, 1889. This is the art of bathing in romanticism, it is shameful in the superlative.
The IOC should offer a significant sum of money, which would be a tangible testament to the efforts made by the champions. The IOC is rich, and the athletes often train in conditions that are not always optimal. They have a hard time living on modest subsidies and a few sponsorships gleaned here and there. After all, it is the athletes who put on the show!
