The investigation into a “disturbing disappearance” opened after the disappearance of a 34-year-old mother who left her home in the center of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) at the beginning of November without giving any further news, was reclassified on Friday for “kidnapping and sequestration”, AFP learned on Saturday November 18 from the prosecution.

The investigation is being conducted by an investigating judge, as part of a judicial investigation opened since Tuesday, Marseille public prosecutor Nicolas Bessone told AFP.

A march to “shake things up a little”

Mélodie Mendes da Silva, a 34-year-old beautician and mother of two children, left her home located in the center of Marseille on Friday, November 3 at the end of the afternoon and she no longer gave any sign of life to her family ever since. Her disappearance was reported by her husband three days later, on November 6, said Nicolas Bessone.

According to the wanted notice distributed and posted in the streets and metro of Marseille, Mélodie Mendes da Silva, 1.75 m tall, was dressed in black and wearing flip flops when she left her home. His last geolocation, according to his phone, dates back to the same day, at 7:24 p.m., in the 11th arrondissement, in the east of Marseille.

On Saturday, several dozen people marched through the streets of Marseille. The objective “is to shake things up a little, for the police to do their job, quite simply”declared Patrick, Mélodie’s brother, on BFMTV. “Everyone believes that she is still there, that we will find her or that she will come back.”
