This May 1, Labor Day, coincides with the 13th call for mobilization launched by the unions against the pension reform. The social partners are hoping for a record crowd in the processions. 12,000 police and gendarmes are mobilized throughout France.

Thirteenth day of mobilization against the pension reform, and Lyon protesters still as determined. Concerts of saucepans and sprigs of lily of the valley in hand for this symbolic date of May 1, that of the workers. “Nothing is ever lost, I believe in it anyway”, says a protester. In Lyon (Rhône) but also in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), the first processions set off at the end of the morning. According to the CGT, 100,000 people are in the street.

For some, protesting is new

And for some, demonstrating on May 1st is a novelty. “I thought it was good to take part in showing my disagreement with this reform, which I think is unfair”, said a man. In Lille (Nord), retirees, young people and families come to pound the pavement. Like this couple and their two daughters. “We also came to show our daughters that there is still a bit of democracy”, says the Lille. Always united, the inter-union hopes for an exceptional mobilization everywhere in France, and says to expect up to 1.5 million demonstrators, this Monday, May 1.
