The International Olympic Committee favors France for 2030 and Salt Lake City for 2034

The city of Salt Lake City will unsurprisingly be the favorite to win the 2034 Winter Olympic Games. On the other hand, to everyone’s surprise, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) indicated on Wednesday that it will favor the candidacy of the Alps French companies for obtaining the 2030 Games.

The IOC Executive Committee, which wishes to unveil the identity of the cities which will host the next two editions of the Winter Olympic Games next year, has decided to begin exclusive discussions with the Olympic representatives of France and the United States. United for Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City was alone in the running for the 2034 Olympics, after the Utah city hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics.

The joint bid from the snowy sector of the French Alps and the seaside resort of Nice in the south of France competed with the joint bid from Sweden and Switzerland for the IOC’s favor.

The IOC also mentioned that Switzerland’s candidacy for the 2038 Olympic Games had obtained “privileged” status.

The IOC spoke last month of its desire to award the editions of the 2030 and 2034 Winter Olympic Games next July, during a meeting which will bring together around 100 members in the City of Lights at dawn. of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

This plan could now be called to change, in order to avoid a possible conflict of interest for IOC members, who would be asked to vote for a French candidacy while in the country’s capital .
