The international community, meeting on Monday April 15 in Paris, committed to providing funding of more than 2 billion euros for Sudan at war. She also calls “all foreign actors” to cease their armed support for the belligerents in a conflict which has been raging for a year in this country.
Emmanuel Macron denounced a war which “produces only sorrow and suffering”. Barely 190 million commitments had been recorded before the conference, said the French president.
EU countries will provide almost half of the aid
Of the 2 billion promised, the member countries of the European Union will contribute 900 million euros, including 110 million for France, 244 by Germany, or 350 by Belgium. The United States, for its part, has committed to donating 138 million euros.
This support “will make it possible to respond to the most urgent needs in the sectors of food security, health, water, sanitation, education, and protection of the most vulnerable”assured Emmanuel Macron. The United Nations, however, estimated the amount of aid needed for Sudan at $3.8 billion for 2024.
