Frédéric Joli, spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross, explains the missions of the ICRC in armed conflicts and in particular in Ukraine.
“The ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) has been working since 2014 in Ukraine on the Donbass conflict. With the extension to the whole country, since February 24, we have multiplied our means of action”explains Frédéric Joli, spokesman for the ICRC, guest of the 11 p.m. newspaper of franceinfo, Tuesday April 5. “We have 700 people from the ICRC today who are trying to gain access to the victims”he says.
“The ICRC is the neutral intermediary in armed conflicts, so it intervenes between the belligerents to try to bring help to civilians, who should not be attacked, but also to prisoners”informs Frédéric Joli. “The ICRC is the guardian of the international humanitarian law of the Geneva conventions”recalls the ICRC spokesperson.
