The interim direction of the Montreal police will be entrusted to Sophie Roy

Valérie Plante confirmed on Wednesday that her administration will entrust Sophie Roy with the position of interim director of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) following the retirement of Sylvain Caron.

“Mme Roy is the perfect person to take on this interim, given his long experience. Mme Roy has been with the SPVM for 34 years and his leadership is praised by all the players in the community,” said Mayor Plante during the weekly meeting of the executive committee, Wednesday morning.

Mme Roy is currently assistant director of criminal investigations at the SPVM.

She will be the first woman to lead the Montreal police force, reminded the mayor. “Each victory is important in terms of representation, fairness and symbols. We must not hide it, it is important. Mme Roy, from the height of his experience and his enormous contribution within the SPVM, will know how to wear this hat brilliantly. »

The Quebec Ministry of Public Security will have to ratify the appointment of Sophie Roy. For its part, the City of Montreal will continue the process of recruiting a permanent successor to Sylvain Caron, who will be leaving his post on April 22.
