The North-West Interdepartmental Roads Directorate (Dirno) filed a complaint after the video of the accident involving a police car was broadcast on the Internet, France Bleu Normandie reported on Friday.
The video films a chase in a roundabout near Caen (Calvados). Monday March 18, around 6 p.m., a vehicle emerges at high speed from the RN158 coming from Falaise to head towards the Caen ring road. A few seconds later, a police car arrives at the roundabout. But she negotiated her turn poorly and went off the road, rolling several times before stopping in the central reservation on a grassy mound. No soldiers were injured.
Since then, the stolen images have been circulating on social networks, relayed by certain media. The video has already been viewed several million times. The Dirno filed a complaint to find out the origin of the leak. She also launched an internal administrative investigation.
The North-West Interdepartmental Roads Directorate recalls in a press release that these videos are subject to a very strict regime of use. “Only authorized people mentioned in the prefectural authorization can, within the framework of their duties, view them. And they cannot be distributed on any medium.”
The theft of this type of image is punishable by three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros. For those who rebroadcast them, the penalty incurred is five years in prison and a fine of 375,000 euros for receiving stolen goods.
