The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, told the Israeli channel Channel 14 on Sunday June 22 that the fighting “intense” against Palestinian Hamas in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, should soon come to an end, after a month and a half of attacks and bombings.
“This does not mean that the war is about to end, but the war in its intense phase is about to end in Rafah”the leader said during the interview.
The last refuge before the Egyptian border for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced by the war, the town of Rafah has been the scene of a major military operation carried out by the Israeli army since May 7. After the eastern neighborhoods, the entire urban area of Rafah was targeted by bombings and Israeli ground raids.
