A dozen children were mowed down by a car on the morning of Wednesday June 5, in La Rochelle, in Charente-Maritime. Several were seriously injured, and the toxicological analyzes of the octogenarian driver were negative.
The shock was head-on. It was around 10 a.m. this Wednesday June 5 in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), when a group of 12 children on bikes were hit by an 83-year-old driver. This head-on collision occurred on an intersection near the city center. Six children are injured, one of whom is very serious and two others are in a state of absolute emergency, according to the prefecture.
A large number of firefighters, police officers and SAMU doctors were deployed immediately after the accident. The victims are aged 7 to 11 years old. They were accompanied by two adults during an after-school outing organized by their leisure center. According to the first elements of the investigation, the driver is 83 years old. Alcohol and narcotics toxicological analyzes were negative. A judicial investigation has been opened.
