For or against the closure of the ski resort? This is the question asked to the inhabitants of the commune of Grand Puy (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence). Indeed, from year to year, there is less and less snow and therefore many fewer tourists. The situation then became a financial pit for the city. Residents must now choose their future.

What will become of the Grand Puy resort in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence? For the town hall, it is a financial pit of 350,000 euros of loss per year. “We went from 17,000 skier days to 6,000 skier days. In 10 years, turnover has decreased by 60%. Everything is alarming for us and this has led us to question the future of the Grand Puy resort”explains the mayor of the town.

The Grand Puy resort had its glory days in the 1970s and 1980s, but today it is a bygone era. On Sunday October 6, residents will vote by referendum on whether or not to maintain the chairlifts. The only ski equipment rental company in Grand Puy is now on borrowed time: “Without a ski lift, there is no more skiing, so I’m no longer here”worries the ski rental company. In the polling station, everything is already ready for the 1,300 voters in the town.
