Monday August 15, the inhabitants of Belin-Béliet, in Gironde, who had been evacuated because of the fires, were able to return to their homes. They see the damage and come back to life.
Life resumes in Belin-Béliet (Gironde), Monday August 15. The hundreds of people who had been evacuated due to the fires have returned to their homes and resumed their daily lives. After several days away from home, they stock up. “I had come to eat dog food (…), we’re restocking”says a woman.
For some, the return is complicated, the trauma of the fire remains strong. “We’ve been here for ten years and we’ve never had this (…), everything is burned, even there, it’s hard to talk about it”, says Cristina Meunier, a resident of Belin-Béliet (Gironde). A farmer lost his meadow, and his house was spared the flames. “I prefer that to the other way around (…) I think the firefighters worked very well”, says Bernard Montagut, a resident of Belin-Béliet. Monday, August 15, everyone is happy to have been able to return home. They hope that the rain will prevent new outbreaks of fire.
