Return to France. After three first days on Danish roads marked by the fervor of the public, the Tour de France returns to France. While the route has so far left the spotlight to the sprinters, the first opportunity for the punchers presents itself, Tuesday, July 5, between the mountains of Flanders and Boulonnais.
From a start on the Dunkirk coast, the riders must reach Calais after a 171.5 kilometer long course. Six climbs, all classified in the fourth category, are staggered on the course, which follows the coastal layout for the last 25 kilometers. “We can expect a very dynamic finale“, announces to AFP the director of the race, Thierry Gouvenou, before the arrival judged in the sub-prefecture of Pas-de-Calais.
The yellow jersey, Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma), will have to position himself well to face the wind from Pas-de-Calais. He will be closely followed by his compatriot Yves Lampaert (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) and by the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UEA Team Emirates) who are respectively 7 and 14 seconds behind.
