The hearing in the trial of Rédoine Faïd was suspended on Friday, October 6, after the courts mistakenly revealed the face of an informant on the screens of the trial room, to whom the courts had guaranteed anonymity.
A trial under high security for five weeks, and an unprecedented incident, Thursday October 5. In the dock, a wooden screen is supposed to protect and hide one of the 12 accused in the Rédoine Faïd trial. He is a former informant. He and his family, threatened, had to change their name. The audience only hears his voice. On the evening of Thursday, October 5, while he was testifying at the bar, his face appeared on the dozen screens broadcasting the hearing.
A “completely implausible” scene
“Everyone was able to see the face of this witness who is protected. There was a movement of a bit of panic, the gendarmes very clumsily tried to conceal it by moving the screen. It was a completely incredible scene.“, says Stéphane Durand-Souffland, journalist at Le Figaro. The incident was long enough for, according to the president of the Assize Court, a spectator to take a photo and post it on social networks.
There are only around fifty justice cooperators in France, who benefit from protection and a guarantee of anonymity. This is very little compared to Italy or Canada. The incident that occurred on Thursday should not help matters.
