Inflation reached 4.8% over one year in April, after 4.5% in March, a level not seen since 1985, indicated INSEE. The most modest households are directly affected and associations are sounding the alarm. “In our structures, we have not seen the population decrease. On the other hand, the increase is clear, it is severe”alarmed Friday, May 13 on franceinfo, Henriette Steinberg, general secretary of Secours populaire.

A situation that worries him “very seriously”. “The Secours populaire is in 1,300 places, you can multiply this concern by 1,300”, she adds. Anxiety which causes, according to the secretary general of the Secours populaire, “fear and a worrying climate”.

Among the beneficiaries of Secours populaire, regulars, who cannot manage to get by, but also “new people”. “When you’re on two salaries and you can’t make it, imagine what happens to a single mother.” Henriette Steinberg also notices the increasing presence of part-time workers, “on time”.

The government promised an amending “purchasing power” finance law, just after the legislative elections. But Henriette Steinberg warns, “the number of French people in difficulty will be greater than what was anticipated”. “We must find measures that are long-term, we must stop proceeding on a cost-by-cost basis, this amplifies the concern”she concludes.
