“The Illusion” by Maxime Chattam

“The Illusion”, the 26th book by the author just released on Pocket. What to wait before the release of the next in large format scheduled for spring 2022. And this is an opportunity for me to introduce you to this king of thriller if you do not know him yet.

For the others, thriller lovers, I know that his name is far from being that of an unknown person. Chattam, whose real name is Maxime Drouot, first studied art because initially he wanted to pursue an acting career.

He loves the writing of Stephen King and it is very interesting because often at Chattam on approaches the fantastic to see horror. His first novel is called “Le coma des mortals”, he tells of a month in the skin of a young man plunged into a coma. Numerous successes followed, in particular a trilogy around evil released by Michel Laffont. He writes many works in the form of series elsewhere. Success is there and Chattam multiplies many projects. He made inroads into comics, the world of short stories and even wrote a play.

In “The Illusion”, we are in a family ski resort in Val Quairos. But it’s in the summer that the plot takes place when there are only a dozen seasonal workers left in deserted places. It’s always a good idea these off-season places for the suspense elsewhere. Hugo has just arrived but right from the start, he senses that something is wrong. He feels spied on, he has visions… He will very quickly have to learn to deal with your fears. He wants to investigate the mystery that hovers but he will first start on false leads.

All the ingredients are there to shake and have a good time. It’s thriller but there’s psychology and a part of magic.
