The Ille-et-Vilaine department allocates 300,000 euros to help Ukrainians

Jean-Luc Chenut, President of the Departmental Council of Ille-et-Vilaine was the guest of France Bleu Armorique this Friday, March 10 to talk about emergency aid allocated to help Ukrainians.

While the war has been going on for the 16th day in Ukraine and towns are still under Russian bombardment, the president of the Ille-et-Vilaine departmental council wishes to set up exceptional aid for the refugees.

300,000 euros from the Department

Jean-Luc Chenut explains that “the seriousness of the situation with already thousands of deaths, more than 2 million refugees, including a million children, requires the mobilization of all, the mobilization of communities, the mobilization of the State”. The president of the Departmental Council therefore wishes to set up an action plan which will be submitted to the departmental assembly this Friday morning. A plan “with two main areas: half towards international organizations, to the systems also managed in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be effective as quickly as possible. And then, un funds that will allow us to support local initiatives supported by communities in Ille-et-Vilaine or also supported by associations that will present projects to us” explains Jean-Luc Chenut.

A special commission will be made up of elected representatives of the majority and the minority to implement this plan.

“Our department has a tradition of solidarity”

Jean-Luc Chenut explains that he has no not surprised by the generosity of the Bretons. “There is a tradition of solidarity, generosity, mobilization in our territory” details the president of the Departmental Council.
