The LR president of the Ile-de-France Region, Valérie Pécresse, announced, Monday April 29, that she had “decided to suspend all funding from the Region intended for Sciences Po until serenity and security are restored to the school”. This announcement comes in response to an agreement reached between pro-Palestinian students and the management of the Parisian institution, which undertook to organize an internal debate and to suspend disciplinary procedures launched against demonstrators.

Friday, a day of blockage and mobilization, punctuated by tensions, was held at Sciences Po, in the presence of several deputies from La France insoumise. “A minority of radicalized people calling for anti-Semitic hatred, and exploited by the LFI and its Islamo-leftist allies, cannot dictate their law to the entire educational community”says Valérie Pécresse, on X.

A grant of more than a million euros

Contacted by franceinfo, the Region specifies that it “suspend assignment” of one million euros “planned within the framework of the State-Region plan contract” for 2024. “International mobility and mentor contract credits, which were to be allocated in the spring and at the start of the school year, of the order of a little over 100,000 euros, will also not be allocated at this stage”she specifies.

In 2019, Sciences Po benefited from total resources amounting to 200 million euros, according to the school’s website. Public subsidies then represented 69.1 million euros, or a third of the budget, the rest being financed by own resources.
