The identification of products made here on Amazon has caused a wave of Quebec-bashing on social networks, while many English speakers are delighted to now know what not to buy.

For several days, the logos of the Product of Quebec, Made in Quebec and Designed in Quebec certification marks have been highlighted on product sales sheets on Amazon, where there is now a page dedicated to local products and a store “Fleurdelysé” presenting different items from Quebec manufacturers.

“It’s good to know, it makes it easier to identify what not to buy,” writes English Imperative, in the language of Shakespeare, in a comment on social networks.

“It’s a great way to lose sales,” adds George Ostrowski, still in English.

Other Internet users took out their best pen to react to the news. One of them writes, in a clear and direct style: “haha, f off quebec products” (in French: haha, fuck it Quebec products).

Another maintains that “nothing is designed and produced in Quebec”, in a tone of laughter as indicated by the presence of a laughing emoji.

“If it’s designed AND produced here, it’s a safe bet that it will break after the first use, or that it won’t work if you’re an English speaker,” reads another comment.

In government, these messages were received with a touch of irony. In a micro-message also in English, the Minister for the Economy, Christopher Skeete, wanted to confront the authors of these comments with their own contradictions.

“To those who wrote these messages: there is a good chance that you yourself are employed by one of these companies and are therefore advocating for the end of your own employment!” he wrote, in English, before concluding: “I say that the same.”
