The ideal Sunday of… Jessica Barker

Every two weeks, a personality presents us with his ideas for ending the weekend in style.

Jessica Barker loves Sunday, a day when she lets herself be carried away by the atmosphere that reigns. She can improvise a walk on Mount Royal with her two daughters, eat dumplings, go for a walk in the library, or bake a dozen muffins.

“On Saturdays, we receive friends and families, but on Sundays, we keep the day to ourselves! “, she says. One of his Sunday rituals is his unmissable television evenings. “I like to settle down to watch Revolution to VAT, then it will be Everybody talks about itor a gala or movies, there is always something good to watch,” she says.

All roads lead to Mount Royal

Jessica Barker lives near Mount Royal and knows all the little roads that lead there. “Whatever the season, summer or winter, I will walk on Mount Royal with my boyfriend, our two children and Chapeau, our cocker spaniel, the newest member of the family. Even if all of Montreal meets there on Sundays, that doesn’t bother me! It makes me happy to walk on the mountain. We climbed Mount Royal by all possible paths. We go to the belvedere, then to the cross, and we descend by the small paths in the forest. In winter, we go skating. We also like to go sliding, we have guts, we set off on the toboggan runs, in short, we really enjoy our mountain. »

The library, a must

The actress and host likes to go to the library on foot. “We frequent the Mordecai-Richler library on Park Avenue. We have our habits there. Joséphine, my 5-year-old daughter, loves books on animals, she will end up being a specialist in whales! Victoria, 10, has read all the comics and now devours all the novels, including the Quebec collection Défense d’Entre. We then go home, we each sit down with their book and it’s joy! »

The good addresses of Jessica Barker

She does all her shopping on foot, in her neighborhood. Among her good addresses, there is the one where she tastes delicious dumplings. “Sunday is dumpling day! And I’m going to pick them up at the best place: at Harbin, on Saint-Laurent Boulevard. For charcuterie, it will be at Aliments Viens, also on Saint-Laurent Boulevard, the mortadella is wonderful. It has the best ham for my kids’ sandwiches and I always go with a cheese or two. As for the bakery, I go to Hof Kelsten. The croissants are divine, the crusty baguette is incredible and during the holidays, there is the panettone. It’s worth the detour ! »

On Sunday, we improvise

“I like not having a schedule or plans on Sundays, so we improvise. We’re going to meet up with friends or at the park, we’re going to see an exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, we’re going to improvise a lunch, take a trip to the Jean-Talon market. I love going there, I tell myself every time that I don’t go there often enough! There is something on Sundays that pushes us to be relaxed, to let ourselves be carried away by the atmosphere! There are even Sundays when I manage to convince my 5-year-old daughter to take a nap, while my eldest is at the gym! It doesn’t really work, so we’ll end up singing and giving each other massages. »

Christmas muffins and cookies!

“I don’t make menus for the week, but I prepare muffins to start the week’s lunches off right! As Christmas approaches, we’re going to decorate the tree and bake cookies for Santa Claus while listening to Rod Stewart’s Christmas album and for my boyfriend, it will be that of Michael Bublé. I also like listening to Marie-Michèle Desrosiers, it’s comforting. As for Christmas cookies, it is not always done in the greatest happiness. It must be said, it’s a bit of chaos! It sticks, some cookie cutters are too big, the figures come apart, in short, we experience great emotions, but I know it makes my children happy, so we’re getting started! I opt for the cookie recipe of our king Ricardo. But my favorite cookies are the chocolate ones, you don’t need to decorate them with multiple colors, and they are so moist and tasty! »
