Director Cyril Dion was the guest of franceinfo on Wednesday for the release of his documentary “Animal”.

“The idea is to look at our world with the eyes of the future”, explains Wednesday, December 1 on franceinfo the director Cyril Dion on the occasion of the release of his documentary Animal, in which two teenagers are the main characters. “These teenagers have another way of looking at our way of breeding or of politics. They shake us up.”, explains the director.

franceinfo: Is it voluntary to have made two teenagers your main characters?

Cyril Dion: Yes, because the idea is to look at our world today with the eyes of the future in a certain way. With the eyes of these teenagers who already have another way of looking at our way of doing breeding or politics. They shake us up. It creates a gap which is obliged to question us.

Your film is not confined to an ecology of everyday solutions …

Hubert Reeves says that the ecological crisis is a bit like if we were in a train that is speeding at 300 km / h on a mountain … The goal is not simply to slow down 150 km / h, the goal it’s changing trains and wondering where you want to go. In the film, we explain that if we do not change the purpose of our society – always more growth, profits, material possession – for more health, well-being, social bond, ability to ensure that this planet remains habitable, we will never get out of it.

Your film is also guilt-free when the two teenagers meet an industrial rabbit breeder. Does that allow you to say that there aren’t the good guys and the bad guys?

Exactly. It’s a sequence that tries to show that it is a systemic problem and that it is not Manichean. This man doesn’t do it for fun. He does this because he’s caught in a gear that pushes him to produce a lot, cheaply, as quickly as possible. He is in a cage with his rabbits. He was seized by these teenagers who come with the eyes of the future. Today, I believe he is trying to get out of this gear.
