The Main Deli, an establishment on Saint-Laurent Boulevard that opened its doors almost half a century ago, has closed its doors permanently.
A note has been posted on the door of the establishment announcing the closure, reports CTV News.
“It is with regret that we inform you that the Main Deli has decided to close. Thank you to all of our loyal customers for all these years,” the note read.
The Main Deli’s Facebook page also indicates that the establishment, which opened in 1974, is permanently closed.
The legendary restaurant was located just in front of its main rival, Schwartz’s Deli.
Disappointed customers
Among the customers disappointed by this closure, there is Justin Trudeau.
“Ouch. Really bad news! After decades, we say goodbye to the Best. Meat. Smoke. AT. Montreal,” wrote the prime minister on Twitter on Monday.
Another faithful of the restaurant, Fréderic Serre, claims, in a Facebook post, to have spoken to the manager of the place.
“It was a very emotional day for everyone. Employees had worked here for more than 35 years”, he would have confided to him.
