A bucket of ice water for a good cause: on social networks, this challenge helps raise funds for Charcot’s disease. It was relaunched by Olivier Goy, 49, himself suffering from the disease.

An icy shower, to which personalities or anonymous people lend themselves. This challenge sheds light on Charcot disease. Ten years ago, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, and Bill Gates launched the challenge to the whole world. Today in France, it is Olivier Goy, suffering from this degenerative disease, who is relaunching the idea. He recently lost his speech. It’s a computer that reproduces his voice.

“This bucket of ice water symbolizes the feeling when you receive the diagnosis, the fear when you are told that you have a fatal and still incurable illness,” he explains, recalling that “people die within three to five years”. Every overturned bucket supports research. To take on this challenge, three steps: film yourself pouring the bucket of iced water, publish on social networks, make a donation on défrivré.org, and nominate three people who will also take on the challenge. Olivier Goy dreams that Zinédine Zidane will soon play the game. “If he does, I will be a hero in my young son’s eyes.”, said Olivier. Every day, five people are diagnosed in France.
