Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday the holding of a “humanitarian conference” on Gaza next Thursday, November 9 in Paris. The “humanitarian situation of the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza is critical”, indicates the Quai d’Orsay, which specifies that it will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“This conference will mobilize the main actors involved in the humanitarian response in Gaza,” specifies the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “States, main donors, international organizations and NGOs active in Gaza”, such as the ICRC, were invited, as was the Palestinian Authority, adds the Quai d’Orsay.
Israel and Iran not invited
Among the heads of state invited, those of the Maghreb countries, Jordan, Egypt, but not Iran, assures the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There will also be member countries of the European Union and European institutions, as well as Norway and Switzerland. Israel, for its part, will not be invited because its presence would be “problematic”, but the Hebrew State has been warned, assures the Quai d’Orsay.
This humanitarian conference aims to estimate responses in terms of humanitarian aid, in the health, water, energy and food sectors. The various delegations will also be able to present the “initiatives already implemented or planned for the benefit of the populations” but also “discuss their current financial mobilization and announce new commitments”.
