The day after a fifth night of riots in France since the death of young Nahel, – shot dead by a policeman in Nanterre, this Tuesday, June 27, 2023, during a refusal to comply -, the country woke up in shock this Sunday, July 2, with the announcement of the attack on the personal residence of the mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses, in Val-de-Marne, Vincent Jeanbrun. The facts took place during the night, around 1:30 a.m., while the mayor was still at his Town Hall. Rioters drove a car-ram at his house before setting it on fire. Inside, his wife and two children aged 5 and 7, panicked, decided to flee. The latter then had to undergo mortar fireworks. Injured in the tibia, then hospitalized, the wife has just been operated. Her husband comes, at the time of our publication, to give her news: “She is on morphine and she has discovered that she will not walk for three months”, he has just indicated. And to add: “She is especially worried about the children, it is our first concern”.

“Attacking a mayor is attacking all of us, all citizens”
A dread which led Elisabeth Borne and Gérald Darmanin to go to the scene this Sunday morning to ensure the councilor of government support. If the Prime Minister “sentencedintolerable facts”the entire political class is, for once, on the same line of condemnation. “Bravo for your courage and determination. to serve our fellow citizens”writes for example the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire on social networks, addressing his former sidekick LR“let no violence, verbal or physical, pass.” His colleague in the government Olivier Klein also evokes a “despicable aggression”, “attacking a mayor is attacking all of us, all citizens.” There regional president Valérie Pécresse, for her part, praises the “courage” of the mayor facing “the cowardice and ignominy of such an attack.” And this appalling attack which affected a mother and her two children obviously moved beyond the politicians. On Twitter, the host Christophe Beaugrand did not hesitate to share his fear and his support for the Jeanbrun family, this Sunday July 2: “I send my deepest thoughts to Vincent Jeanbrun and his family who were shamefully attacked at their home last night.
