The 13 Heures takes you to meet exceptional ice cream makers. In Strasbourg, Franchi ice cream is an institution. The story begins in 1934 when an Italian family came to settle in town.

In Strasbourg, Franchi ice cream has almost become synonymous with sweet pleasure, Franchi being a dynasty of ice cream parlors well known to Strasbourg residents. “I remember, I lived in Strasbourg at the age of 7 and it already existed and I am 63″, says a man. It was in 1934 that Joseph Franchi, an Italian immigrant, sold ice cream for the first time in Strasbourg. This will be the start of a large family business, united around the same product.

“We are very lucky to work in a setting like that, Alsace is magnificent”,
rejoices Laurent Franchi, grandson of the founder. Behind the counter is his wife. The quality of the ice cream is the family’s reputation. Everything is done by hand. The recipes were transmitted orally in the family, nothing is written down. Each of the six children of the founder has its own point of sale.
