Indicted for the assassination of his Spanish teacher in his high school in Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the teenager will spend the night of Friday February 24 in a detention center for minors. Shortly before noon, after two days in police custody, he left the Bayonne courthouse in an unmarked police car. If he claimed in police custody to have “heard voices” asking him to kill his teacher, the psychiatric expert who examined him considered him responsible for his actions.
Psychiatric expertise in doubt
The suspect’s lawyer challenges his conclusions. “How do you expect an expert who knows nothing about his prescriptions, nor his suicide attempt, to decently make an authoritative judgment?” he asks. Last October, the teenager tried to end his life because, he says, of harassment at his former establishment. In his high school, many teachers and students insisted on coming to class, despite the shock.
