Sexism is increasing in France, this is the observation of the High Council for Equality between Women and Men. It publishes its annual report this Monday, January 22

Three quarters of women feel discriminated against, whether at home, at school or in the digital space. 70% of them felt treated differently from their brothers in their family, 74% said they had given up on scientific studies, and 75% did not feel treated equally on the Internet. Faced with preconceived ideas, middle school students created a comic strip. But in 2023, the idea that women should stop working to raise children has gained seven points among men.

Paradoxes

At the same time, awareness of sexist and sexual violence is increasingly important, a paradox. “Mentalities do not evolve in the same way when it comes to reasoning, and the old age-old reflexes mean that women must come second”analyzes Sylvie Pierre-BrossolettePresident of the High Council for Equality between Women and Men.
