The thermometer shows more than 38 degrees in Andalusia. Faced with these heat waves, the populations, professionals and authorities are worried. A historic temperature record has been recorded.
In Spain, the thermometer continues to climb, and displays more than 38 degrees in the middle of April. In Seville, however, the inhabitants are used to heat waves but here, the umbrella has become essential. “It’s not normal. It’s totally atypical to have 40 degrees today”, says a resident. Early heat which also worries tourists. Here, everyone is looking for freshness. “We look for shade everywhere, we look for water everywhere and we look for a place to go”, insists another resident. Same observation in Toledo, in Castile-La Mancha, with temperatures up to 15 degrees higher than normal for the season, a historic record. “It’s hot, it’s hot, it’s unbearable”launches a passerby.
54,000 hectares burned
Faced with rising temperatures, the country has recorded a record number of fires since January with 54,000 hectares burned. That is three times more than last year at the same period. For farmers, the situation is critical. No less than 60% of arable land has dried up due to the lack of rain, according to a trade union.
