Fee overruns are ever more common among specialists, such as gynecologists, denounces UFC-Que Choisir. Maria Roubtsova, health mission manager within the association, is the guest of 12/13 info, Thursday February 22.
The UFC-Que Choisir association warns of the extent of fee overruns among specialist doctors in France. “We looked at eight specialties among the most present in private medicine, and we found that gynecologists were the champions of overruns, since on the national territory, the average overrun for gynecologists is more than 20 euros“, explains Maria Roubtsova, health mission manager at UFC-Que Choisir, in the 12/13 info of Thursday February 22. Regarding these eight specialties, Maria Roubtsova also notes that “there are great inequalities, since the average fees vary from simple to double depending on the departments“.
A basic price “supposed to reflect the fair price of consultations”
How to limit these excesses? “It is the basic rate of Social Security which is supposed to reflect the fair price of consultations. Negotiations between private doctors and Health Insurance are underway”explains Maria Roubtsova first. “We would like that on this occasion, Social Security would take more control over prices,” seeing them again “possibly upwards, if necessary in certain specialties”, in order to “reward doctors who respect the basic rate”she asks. The health mission manager at UFC-Que Choisir also calls for “more caps on overruns”.
