The headquarters of PSG, in Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine), was searched in mid-February as part of the investigation into the transfer of Neymar, franceinfo learned from a source close to the matter, confirming news from the newspaper THE World. The Paris prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation in 2022 to find out whether a tax favor was granted to the Parisian club during the transfer of Brazilian striker Neymar in 2017, for 222 million euros.

Justice is wondering in particular whether the former Macronist vice-president of the National Assembly, Hugues Renson, tried to obtain from the government “fiscal advantages” for PSG during the transfer of the Brazilian superstar to the club in the French capital. In mid-January, the Ministry of the Economy and Finance was raided as part of this investigation, including, according to Mediapart, the office of the general director occupied until recently by Jérôme Fournel, since appointed director of office of the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire.

On January 4, Mediapart revealed that “in the summer of 2017, the Minister of Public Accounts Gérald Darmanin and his chief of staff helped PSG not to pay tens of millions of euros in transfer taxes”. The rebellious MEP Manon Aubry then announced on January 10 that she had sent a referral to the Paris public prosecutor.
