There are many of these young students at go around real estate agencies to find an apartment for the start of the school year. While some land for the first time in Montpellier, the task quickly becomes complicated when they realize that there are almost no apartments on the market at the moment.

A situation that Marion, a 23-year-old from Biterroise who is resuming studies in art and fashion design in Montpellier, has paid the price.
“When you’re tenth on the waiting list, it’s complicated”
After several weeks of research, she ended up finding an apartment thanks to a work colleague of his father. But before that, it was a mess. “I started looking from the end of May. I watched ads all day. But now everything is done online and by waiting list. So when you’re tenth on this kind of list, it’s complicated” she explains. She claims to have taken steps “for about fifty apartments” before finding hers. It’s even worse for Estelle, who came especially from the North of France to find an apartment. But without success. “We were 50 in an apartment, and as soon as we came spontaneously to the agency, there were always four or five people in front of us who filed a file” she laments.
Help with research and formalities
In an attempt to unblock this situation, the town hall of Montpellier is relaunching the student housing space this summer. After a first opening in July, this reception area reopens today at the town hall from Monday to Friday until September 9. The goal: to assist students with advisors who help with research and formalities. A godsend for them, still waiting for their future apartment.
