The first announcement of his death by Hamas suggested “a hit”. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran (Iran) on Wednesday, July 31, by a “air projectile”according to local media. He was in one of the residences reserved for war veterans in the north of the Iranian capital, after attending the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian. But according to information from the New York Timesciting five Middle Eastern officials speaking on condition of anonymity, Ismail Haniyeh was killed by a bomb planted about two months ago in the residence where he was staying, protected by the Revolutionary Guards and part of a large complex located in an upscale neighborhood in northern Tehran.
“The explosion shook the building, shattered windows and caused the partial collapse of an exterior wall.”the American newspaper reported, citing two Iranian officials. The newspaper also published a photograph of the building in question, in which damage is visible.
