Since August 1, 2023, you are no longer required to provide a receipt in paper format. However, half the time, the French continue to ask for it. But is it still a good way to control your budget?

Since 1er Last August, printing a paper receipt is no longer automatic in stores. However, more than one in two customers continue to ask for them. “I ask it to be able to compare the evolution of prices”, explains a customer in a supermarket. On the shelves, for more than half of consumers, the receipt still remains the best way to control their spending.

25 million trees cut down each year

Each year, nearly a million tickets are printed in the supermarket examined by the France Télévisions teams, the equivalent of thousands of kilometers of paper. At the checkout, ecological awareness is slowly awakening. Only one in four tickets is sent to customers’ smartphones. The brand is aware of this, habits remain anchored, and the end of paper is not for tomorrow. In total, each year, 12.5 billion receipts are still printed in France, or 25 million trees cut down.
