The gusts that shook Quebec leave more than 13,000 homes without electricity

(Montreal) Saturday’s strong winds, with gusts of 90 km/h, caused a lot of headaches for Hydro-Québec at the end of the afternoon and evening. About 70,000 customers were without power at the height of the outage around 7 p.m. when strong winds blew in southern Quebec.

Power was gradually restored in the evening. Nevertheless, more than 13,500 customers were still without electricity Sunday morning, around 9:30 a.m., mainly in Montérégie.

The regions of Montérégie (3,337 customers still out of order), Laval (2,191 customers) and the Laurentians (598 customers) were the regions most affected by these power outages, which persisted Sunday morning.

The Estrie region was also affected on Sunday morning with 834 subscribers to the state-owned company without electricity. They were more than double the day before in the dark (4141 customers).

Other outages were also reported Sunday morning in the Lanaudière (667 customers) and Outaouais (588 customers) regions, but to a lesser extent.

Hydro-Québec said in the evening that its teams were working to restore service as quickly as possible.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change had forecast that winds would reach 90 km / h in many regions of Quebec on Saturday.

Around 8 p.m., the wind warning was lifted in the regions of Montreal, Laval, Montérégie and the Laurentians, then around 10 p.m. in the other regions.
