On Wednesday May 25, several activists demonstrated before the group’s General Assembly Total. They denounce the environmental policy of the oil giant.

On Wednesday May 25, more than 200 demonstrators blocked the entrance to the Salle Pleyel in Paris. These activists from environmental associations prevented the shareholders of the group TotalEnergies to attend the general meeting. They denounce the climate policy of the French oil company and demand that investments in fossil fuels be stopped. “The fossil fuel industry cannot be considered a normal and acceptable industry“, argues Jean-François Julliard, director general of Greenpeace France.

The general meeting was still held and the boss indicated that TotalEnergies could not, on its own, change the situation. “How planes, trains, trucks use energy is not decided by us, the energy company, it is the manufacturers“, answered Patrick Pouyanné, managing director of TotalEenergies. Several major shareholders have also opposed the environmental policy of Total. Crédit Mutuel has therefore asked for profits to be invested in renewables.
