The Casino brand is in great difficulty. The group could sell dozens of supermarkets. Employee demonstrations are being held on Tuesday, December 5, to contest management’s decision.
Tuesday, December 5, all morning, Casino employees demonstrated in the Paris region and at the head office in Saint-Étienne (Loire). They wonder if their jobs will disappear. They want to get a clear answer from their management. Created in 1998, the group today employs 18,000 people in France. It also owns Franprix and Monoprix.
119 stores taken over by Intermarché
EStrangled by a record debt of 6.4 billion euros, the brand wants to urgently sell off several dozen stores, starting with its largest stores, the heavily loss-making supermarkets and hypermarkets. Interested, certain brands have positioned themselves to buy stores. 119 have already been taken over by Intermarché. Casino management did not wish to comment and will meet with the unions on Friday December 8.
