The management of the Grévin museum has decided to remove the statue of Pierre Palmade from its Parisian establishment, learned Thursday, February 23, franceinfo. A qualified decision “exceptional” by Véronique Berecz, head of external relations at the museum: “These are totally tragic facts and events. We consulted quickly out of respect for the family. It was obvious that we could not keep the character of Pierre Palmade.”

Véronique Berecz also points out that visitors have complained. “We quickly got some pretty vehement messages on social media and a few visitors expressed their displeasure that the character could be presented”she confirms.

A rare but not unprecedented decision

Friday, February 10, Pierre Palmade caused an accident at the wheel of his vehicle. Driving under the influence of cocaine, he crashed into another car. The accident left three seriously injured, including a pregnant woman who lost her baby. He has since been indicted for “manslaughter and involuntary injury”.

If the removal of a statue is rare as the management points out, it is not a first. In 2022, that of Vladimir Putin was withdrawn, a week after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
