The Grenoble trio Leonid covers the hits of Renaud’s first ten years

The group is performing this Saturday, May 4 in Grenoble on the stage of the Salle Noire with its show entitled “My life, his work 1975-1985”.

It’s a unidentified scenic object that resonates with an entire era. That of the first years of Renaud’s repertoire. With My life, his work 1975-1985, the singer Fafa Daïan realizes a childhood dream: drawing from the repertoire of the angry singer by starting from the fundamentals: the texts and the melodies.

Accompanied by his accomplices Rémi and Benson, the Leonid trio takes the stage of the Salle Noire in Grenoble for a joyful concert with gentle accents of revolt. “He had a unique place in French variety, he embodied the social singer. He spent his entire career on normal people, a little broken by life,” reports the group’s singer, Fafa Daïan.

This passion for Renaud began on May 1, 1985. Fafa Daïan blows out his ten candles and unwraps his gift. Before his eyes, the vinyl winner Mistral by Renaud. The sweet melancholy of the rebel singer touches the kid right in the heart and will never leave his ears. “As a kid, I considered him a big brother, he was someone who helped build me. Between his songs, his poetry, his universe and his way of being open to others, I really grew up with this guy”, confides Fafa Daïan.

True to the original songs

On stage, the Leonid trio reclaims Renaud’s gold mine. Guitars, keyboard, drums, marimba, anything is allowed provided you are vigilant and respects the soul of the original song down to the comma. Red suburb, I am a bunch of young people, Student hair in teeth or Fatiguethe musicians perform Renaud’s great titles which launched his career in 1975. Alongside these iconic anthems, Leonid has also unearthed rare gems like Scavengers.

If they have fun twisting Renaud’s repertoire, without damaging it, Leonid’s musicians juggle with words and melodies to pay homage to the raw material used. Together, they have designed a show that sweeps away clichés to better distill the tender and rebellious poetry of the artist to early fans but also to novices, “The dream we have is to reach everyone, we take off the cowboy boots, the bandana and we concentrate on the texts and the stories”, confides Fafa Daïan again.
