United States: the great West affected by an invasion of bushes
(France 2)
Cities in the great American West are being hit by an invasion of bushes. Arriving from the desert and driven by winds of nearly 100 km/h, we find these “tumbleweeds” absolutely everywhere.
It’s an invasion. Arriving from the desert and driven by winds of nearly 100 km/h, twirling bushes, called “tumbleweeds”, are taking over the cities of the great American West. The balls block the roads, accumulate in front of houses and cause cars to disappear under mountains of branches.
An unprecedented scale
When pitchforks and rakes are no longer enough, residents pull out all the stops, like a backhoe loader, to create a path. On social networks, residents share images worthy of a Hollywood western, where every outing turns into an obstacle course. The phenomenon is not new, but it takes, in 2024, an unprecedented scale. At the end of winter, the plant detaches itself from its roots to fly away in the wind and disperse its seeds. The branches, covered with thorns, make collisions painful.
