To avoid major peaks in traffic or take advantage of advantageous rates, many French people choose to leave a little before the official start of the summer holidays.
The end of the school year is officially in a week, but there are already people on the roads for early vacation departures. One family has chosen to leave a week early to avoid the influx of vacationers. “The fair took place, the assessments too, so we decided to leave a little earlier”, explains the father. In Saint-Malo, in Brittany, tourists have already taken over the beaches. Here too, many of them came earlier for a little peace and quiet. “We arrived to spend a week without tourists”underlines a woman.
At a campsite in Ariège, after an unusual calm in April and May, tourists are finally returning. A retired couple has been going on holiday in June for several years, to take advantage of more attractive prices. “The prices are more attractive than in September, because we are also leaving in September”, they indicate. For this first weekend of vacation departures, after an orange day, traffic should be fluid throughout the territory according to Bison Futé.
