North: the Gravelines sports complex devoured by flames

Around 1 p.m., Monday December 25, a major fire broke out at the Gravelines sports center. Despite the intervention of the firefighters, the place was completely destroyed.
Flames several meters high ravage the sports center. Despite the efforts of firefighters to contain it, the fire spread across the entire complex in just a few hours, under the gaze of residents who saw this emblematic room in Gravelines (North) be completely destroyed. “It stings, frankly it hurts. This is our Notre-Dame“, confided a resident. The fire apparently started shortly before 1 p.m., near the swimming pool.
A legendary place
Nearly 70 firefighters then tried to contain the flames, but very quickly, the fire spread to the 3,000-seat basketball hall in which the legendary Gravelines club plays. He was supposed to play there in three days. “It’s a facility that has hosted several generations, many sports clubs, great things have happened here“, recalls the mayor, Bertrand Ringot. The fire caused no casualties and is now under control. But on Monday evening, firefighters were still working on site to extinguish the last outbreaks.
